Its yet another occasion to glorify tourism in Chandubi in the outskirt of the city of Guwahati. The event takes place in the new year’s week striking the attention of the foreign and domestic tourists. The venue is situated 40 km away from the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. The event gives the local people a ray of hope that the spot would get a fresh lease of life.

The beautiful water body is famous for its Cheetal fish, an integral part of feasts in Assam. The natural beauty of the Chandubi area amid the deep and lovelier woods is spectacular. The Chandubi festival is only an venture to draw more tourists to the lake. The lake originated following the devastating earthquake that rocked the area on June 12, 1897. The main feature of the lake is the natural lagoon, an ideal place to go fishing.

Chandubi is located at the foot hills of Garo Hills in Meghalaya, just 65km from the city of Guwahati. The less polluted spot is covered by green forest, tea garden and tiny hamlets. Other attractions include raw jungles, tea gardens and the unique cultural heritage of the villagers. Bestowed with natural beauty, it is a safe breeding ground of both the residential and migratory birds. The khasis from Meghalaya used to perform religious rituals to appease Chan-Ubleis (Ublei-gods) near the lake. Later, the local Rabha and Kachari people from Assam referred the lake as part from the original name.

Chandubi festival takes place for about a week where the local Rabha and Garo people showcase their beautiful tradition, art and culture. The impressed tourists take accommodation in the local lodges apart from the tribal houses to share the joy of boating. The huge water body is easily accessible by road from Adabari, Goalpara and Guwahati. From Guwahati it can be reached on the way to the Airport. Buses are available up to Mirza but from there private vehicle have to be taken to reach the lake. Scanty food stall near the lake hence it is better to take food along.
