M’laya ready to defy rebel diktat

Amid a massive security arrangement Meghalaya is preparing to join the Independence Day on Tuesday.

Police and para military forces are fanning in the nook and corner of the north eastern state where GNLA, a dreaded rebel outfit has announced general strike asking the people to boycott the celebration.

The capital city of Shillong has turned into a security fortress with police, army and para military forces stepping up checking and patrolling.

Heavy security forces have been deployed at the Polo Ground where chief minister Mukul Sangma is scheduled to unfurl tri colour before the march past by army, police, para military forces and NCC. Cultural shows are also lined up on the occasion.

A beefed up security is in sight along the Indo-Bangladesh border apprehending strike by the disrupting forces.
