Shillong, the capital city of the north eastern state of Meghalaya seems to have dressed afresh amid biting coldwave. The Scotland of the east is holding the cherry blossom festival from Wednesday.
Meghalaya forest and environment minister Clement Marak is opening the three days huge festival at a function in the Polo Ground at 10 in the morning.
Organizers told Shillong.com that many domestic and foreign tourists have arrived in the capital city to catch a glimpse of the India International Cherry Blossom Festival jointly organized by the state forest and environment department, Institute of Bio Resources and Sustainable Development and Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
The opening ceremony comprises planting of cherry sapling, food stall and exhibition opening while cultural functions are lined up for the evening.
