Christmas festivity in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: Amid a pinching coldwave Meghalaya falls in the deep grip of Christmas festivity with the entire Christian dominated state wearing a fresh look.

Sounds of jingle bells and midnight carols mingle in the air to convey the message of the birth of the Lord Jesus on Sunday night. 

Churches in the nook and corner of the north eastern state are teeming with the people who are thronging for midnight carols. Christmas trees are also shining every households allowing the family members to share the joy if this most vaunted festival. 

Young boys and girls in the churches are lined up to perform midnight carols to be accompanied by hundred others who are gathering to catch a glimpse of the moment. 

The capital city of Shillong wears a different look with Christmas trees lingering in the big and small buildings, shops and markers, schools and colleges and even government and private offices. 

From 9 in the morning all churches will hold community special prayers where people of all ages and walks of life are joining.

 Chief minister Dt Mukul Sangma, his cabinet colleagues all have wished the people a happy Christmas. All political patties and organizations have also have greeted the people on the occasion.
