NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) central leadership have given free hands to its Meghalaya state unit to shortlist the candidates to contest the upcoming assembly polls slated for February 27.
Talking to Shillong.com, AAP central leaders in New Delhi said the state unit was buying time to fnetune the list of the poll candidates.
“We are in constant touch with Meghalaya AAP president Wanshuwa Nongtdu who is looking into this part. He and his political affairs committee has been authorised to finalise the candidates,” said the AAP leader.
“We are given to understand that the political affairs panel in the north eastern state has been looking for winnable and competent candidate to be fielded. It might take a couple of days to clear the third list,” said the leader.
The party’s central leadership have instructed the state leaders not to field any corrupt candidate. The candidate must have not any criminal background.
AAP leadership in Delhi are preparing a slew of guidance to kick start the poll campaign very soon.
The central leadership has dispatched Rakesh Sinha to oversee the poll affairs in Meghalaya where the party has already announced eight candidates.
