Matrilineal Meghalaya is in for a rather taxing time ahead. Quite literally.

Around 450 offices across the state received a notice from the income tax department last week asking them to deduct taxes from employees who were born of mixed parentage — of non-tribal fathers and tribal mothers.

It said that they would no longer be entitled to the benefits of scheduled tribe (ST) status. The taxman has directed that they must also pay their taxes for the financial year 2006-07 by July 31, the last date for filing income tax returns.

Well me and my freind all the way from Romania and other part of europe visit shillong yesterday thinking to explore shillong but when we reach, we were not at all happy,,,our scheldule was to explore shillong for 5 days and then cherrapunji for 3 days however every thing when up and down because of the bandh ,,,well what we all observe is "Khasi poeple are so less in number and instead to live in peace ,,fighting with each other is what you all do " we were so hurt by the way you all live ,, what we read about shillong was completly oppsite,,, well my english is not so good ,, but however ho
