Meghalaya soaks in joy of Christmas

SHILLONG: A full circle Christmas fever grips Meghalaya on Monday as the Christian dominated north eastern state soaks in the joy of the much vaunted festival. Sounds of midnight carols and church bells rented the sky at night to mark the birth of the Lord Jesus. 

From early in the morning the churches across the hills state are teeming with visitors to participate in the special Christmas prayer. Talking to, the visitors, mostly, said they prayed for global peace with the message of love and kin heartedness. 

Young boys and girls in the churches are lined up to perform the special prayer to be accompanied by hundred others who are gathering to catch a glimpse of the moment. 

The capital city of Shillong wears a different look with Christmas trees lingering in the big and small buildings, shops and markers, schools and colleges and even government and private offices. 

From 9 in the morning all churches will hold community special prayers where people of all ages and walks of life are joining.

Many others in the city are visiting their near and dear ones with Christmas cards and gifts. 

Chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma, his cabinet colleagues all have wished the people a happy Christmas. All political patties and organizations have also have greeted the people on the occasion. wishes its correspondents, visitors and well wishers a happy Christmas.
