SHILLONG: UDP president Donkuper Roy is set to be elected as new Meghalaya Assembly Speaker. NPP sources told, his name cropped up to be approved quickly when the coalition partners met in Shillong a day before Conrad Sangma and his 11 colleagues took oath from Governor Ganga Prasad on Wednesday.

The UDP chief whose party has strength of 6 seats rejected Congress leader Mukul Sangma’s offer for Chief Ministership and decided to go with the NPP led coalition paving the way for NPP to lead the coalition with Conrad Sangma as chief minister. The coalition unanimously decided to have the former chief minister as Speaker in addition to the cabinet berth to one of the legislator who took oath on Wednesday.
