Set at an altitude of 12,400 ft, this ethereally beautifull tourist spot is located at about 38 km from the capital city Gangtok.The word Tsomgo means source of the water in Bhutia languageand truly you will find calm deep blue water of the snowy lake of Tsomgo there. You need to pass through a winding road via rugged mountain terrain and sharp cliffs to reach this exotic place. The melting snow of the mountains pours down this lake making it a showpiece of wonderful beauty of this earth. Owing to its different looks at different seasons, this is an example of legendary beauty that you will ever forget. In winter the placid lake remains frozen with the area around it covered in snow while in late spring the profusion of flowers in bloom adds a riot of colours around the lake.

Associated with many mythologies and mysteries this Tsomgo (Changu) Lake is revered by the Sikkimese as holy place. It is believed that in olden times, Buddhist monks would study the colour of the water of the lake to forecast the future.The Jhakri people come here once during the Guru Purnima. It also coinsides with the festival of Raksha Bandhan.

This wonderful outing includes riding on colorfully decorated yaks and mules are offered at the lake site. You will get Snowboots and gumboots for a better experience.

How to reach: 

To reach this oval shaped lake set amidst steep mountains, it will take only 40kilometers from the capital city Gangtok via Gangtok-Nathula highway.
