One of the holy shrines of Hindus, the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Agartala is situated near the main entrance of Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala. The temple was built during the rule of Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya and today it’s a divine tourist spot in Agartala. Icon of Lord Krishna was installed by Krishnananda Sevayet of Laxmi Narayan temple more than 45 years ago. The temple is also registered under Indian antiquitity act like monument.
 
It is financially helped by the royal family of Tripura. The temple holds a legendary tale that the Bhagavat Tamal tree which is closely associated with the life of Krishna  was planted in front of the temple which is 35 years old. This temple holds back the tradition and beliefs nearly hundreds of year old. The branches of the tree have in the years spreaded like a canopy which is one of the main attraction to the tourists in this temple.
 
Every year the birth of the Hindu god lord Krishna 'Janmastami' is celebrated every year with great prompt. Devotees from the whole state assemble here to celebrate this great festival. The Temple in holds a large number of both day devotees and tourists who visit this temple both for offering prayers as well as to visit the adjacent Ujjayanta Palace.
 
The temple is connected by airlines with Calcutta, Guwahati. The nearest two railway stations from Agartala are Kumarghat and Dharma Nagar. Roads connects Agartala , Silchar,Guwahati,Shillong. For staying near the temple there are small but good selection of hotels. All places are made comfortable for the tourists from faraway places. There are very limited food joints and you have no option other then staying in hotels.
